Student Movers Vancouver — Affordable Moving for Students
Moving as a student is a regular part of university life in Vancouver. Between dorm rooms, shared houses, basement suites, and off-campus apartments, most students move at least once a year — sometimes more. The challenge is finding movers who understand student budgets, student timelines, and the unique logistics of student housing. That is exactly what Simple Moves & Storage offers.

We provide budget-friendly student moving services across Metro Vancouver, serving students at UBC, SFU, BCIT, Langara, Douglas College, Capilano University, KPU, and every other campus in the region. Whether you are moving into your first dorm, relocating between shared houses, or heading home for the summer, we make it simple and affordable. With 4.8 stars and years of experience helping students across the Lower Mainland, we know how to get you moved quickly without breaking the bank.
Why Students Need Professional Movers
Many students assume they should just rent a truck or ask friends with a pickup. Here is why that often goes wrong.
Rental trucks are expensive and stressful. By the time you add insurance, fuel, mileage, and the time it takes to load and unload without proper equipment, a rental truck often costs as much as hiring movers — without any of the convenience. Plus, driving a 16-foot truck through Vancouver traffic with no experience is genuinely dangerous. Navigating narrow residential streets in Kitsilano, finding parking near a UBC dorm, or backing into a loading zone downtown is stressful even for experienced drivers.
Friends cancel. Everyone has that story. You booked three friends to help you move on Saturday, and by Friday night, two of them have excuses. Now you are stuck with a half-loaded truck and no help. And the friends who do show up are not trained movers — loading a truck efficiently is a skill, and doing it wrong means multiple trips, damaged furniture, and wasted time.
Risk of injury and damage. Without proper lifting technique, dollies, and straps, moving heavy furniture leads to back injuries, scratched floors, dented walls, and broken items. Your damage deposit is on the line, and a trip to the emergency room costs a lot more than hiring professional movers.
Time is money — especially during exams. Spending an entire weekend moving instead of studying or working is a cost most students cannot afford. Our crew can complete most student moves in two to three hours, giving you the rest of the day back.
What We Move for Students
Student moves tend to be smaller than typical household moves, but they still require proper handling. Our crews regularly move:
- Beds and bed frames including loft beds, futons, and platform beds
- Desks and office chairs
- Bookshelves and storage shelving
- Dressers and nightstands
- Couches, loveseats, and small sofas
- TVs, monitors, gaming consoles, and computer equipment
- Boxes of books and textbooks
- Kitchen supplies, dishes, and small appliances
- Bicycles and electric scooters
- Mini-fridges, microwaves, and personal appliances
- Musical instruments
- Sports equipment
- Personal items, clothing, and bedding
If you have a single room or a studio apartment worth of belongings, our small moves service is ideal. If you are sharing a house and multiple roommates are moving on the same day, we can coordinate the logistics to save everyone time and money.
Student Moving Pricing
We know students are working with tight budgets. That is why we keep our student moving rates as low as possible while still providing professional, insured service.
Most student moves in Metro Vancouver fall into these ranges:
- Single room or dorm room: 1 to 2 hours with two movers
- Studio or one-bedroom apartment: 1.5 to 2.5 hours with two movers
- Shared house (your portion): 1 to 2 hours with two movers
- Full student apartment: 2 to 3 hours with two movers
Our billing is straightforward: an hourly rate for the crew plus a vehicle fee. There are no hidden charges for equipment, gas, or travel time padding. We provide an estimate before the move so you know what to expect. If the move takes less time than estimated, you pay for the actual time, not the estimate.
For students on especially tight budgets, consider these cost-saving strategies: move mid-month when rates are lowest and availability is best, share a truck with roommates who are also moving, pack everything yourself before we arrive to minimize time, and declutter before moving so there is less to transport.
Moving Around Vancouver Campuses
We know the neighborhoods and housing around every major Vancouver campus. This local knowledge saves time and prevents logistical headaches on moving day.
UBC and Point Grey
UBC student housing includes on-campus residences like Totem Park, Place Vanier, Thunderbird, and Marine Drive, as well as off-campus housing in the surrounding Point Grey, Dunbar, and Kitsilano neighborhoods. Moving in and out of UBC residences often means dealing with specific move-in and move-out windows, limited elevator access in high-rise student buildings, parking restrictions on campus roads, and long carry distances from the building to the loading zone. Our crews have moved students in and out of UBC buildings many times and know the campus layout, parking rules, and building access procedures.
SFU Burnaby Mountain
Simon Fraser University sits on top of Burnaby Mountain, which adds a unique challenge: the steep, winding road up the mountain. Our drivers are experienced with the Burnaby Mountain route and navigate it safely with a loaded truck. SFU residences include Towers, Hamilton Hall, and the newer UniverCity condos. Off-campus SFU students often live in the Lougheed, Brentwood, or Metrotown areas of Burnaby.
BCIT
BCIT students tend to live in the surrounding Burnaby and Metrotown neighborhoods. The Burnaby campus area has convenient street access for moving trucks, and our crews are familiar with the common rental buildings in the area.
Langara College
Langara students often live along the Cambie corridor, in South Vancouver, or in the Marpole neighborhood. These areas have a mix of apartment buildings and basement suites, both of which we move in and out of regularly.
Douglas College and KPU
Students at Douglas College in New Westminster and Coquitlam, and KPU in Surrey and Langley, often live in the surrounding suburban communities. We serve all of these areas and handle the mix of apartment, townhouse, and basement suite moves common in these neighborhoods.
Capilano University
Capilano University is located in North Vancouver, and students often rent in the surrounding Lonsdale, Lynn Valley, and Deep Cove areas. We know the North Shore well and handle the unique challenges of North Vancouver housing, including narrow streets, steep driveways, and older walk-up buildings.
Seasonal Student Moving: When to Book
Student moves follow predictable seasonal patterns in Vancouver. Understanding these patterns helps you get the best price and availability.
April and May — end of winter term. This is one of the busiest times for student moves. Students leaving dorms and moving home or to summer housing all move around the same time. Book at least one to two weeks in advance during this period.
August and September — start of fall term. The busiest student moving period of the year. Students arriving from out of town, moving into dorms, relocating to new off-campus housing, and returning from summer breaks all happen in a compressed window. Book as early as possible, ideally two to three weeks ahead.
December and January — between terms. Some students move between fall and spring terms, especially those changing roommates or housing. This is a slower period, and availability is usually good with short notice.
Mid-month vs. end-of-month. Most leases start on the first of the month, so the last few days of each month are always busy for movers. If you have flexibility, moving mid-month is cheaper and easier to schedule.
Tips for Student Moves
We have moved thousands of students across Metro Vancouver. Here are our best tips for keeping your move smooth and affordable.
Declutter before you move. Every box you do not move saves time and money. Go through your belongings a week before the move and sell, donate, or recycle anything you will not need at your new place. Textbooks you are done with, clothes you do not wear, kitchen gadgets you never use — let them go.

Use what you have for packing. You do not need to buy fancy moving boxes for everything. Suitcases, backpacks, laundry baskets, and storage bins work great. Wrap fragile items in clothes and towels instead of buying bubble wrap. Save boxes from online orders in the weeks before your move.
Pack before we arrive. The biggest way to save money on a student move is to have everything packed and ready to go when our crew arrives. If we show up and you are still packing, the clock is ticking while you decide what goes where. Have everything boxed, bagged, or bundled before moving day.
Disassemble what you can. If you know how to take apart your bed frame or desk, do it before we arrive. This saves our crew time, which saves you money. Keep the hardware in a labeled bag taped to the furniture piece.
Coordinate with roommates. If multiple roommates are moving out on the same day, we can move everyone at once. This means you split the cost of the truck and crew, and everyone saves money. Let us know when you book so we can plan for the combined volume.
Check building rules. If you live in a high-rise or managed building, check whether there are reserved elevator times, loading zones, or move-out procedures. Book the elevator early and share the details with us so we are prepared.
Label your boxes. Write your name and the destination room on every box. This is especially important in shared housing where multiple people’s belongings might be in the same area. Clear labels prevent mix-ups and speed up unloading.
Student Storage Solutions
Many students need storage between leases, during the summer, or while studying abroad. We offer affordable storage options that work for student budgets and timelines.
Common student storage scenarios include summer storage when your lease ends in April and your new place does not start until September, co-op or exchange terms when you are away from Vancouver for a semester, gap between leases when there is a one-week or one-month gap between your old and new rental, and excess belongings when your new room is smaller than your old one and you need to store some items temporarily.
We can pick up your belongings, store them in our secure facility, and deliver them to your new address when you are ready. This is often more convenient and cost-effective than renting a self-storage unit, especially if you do not have a vehicle to transport items back and forth.
Frequently Asked Questions About Student Moving
Do you offer student discounts?
Our rates are already set to be affordable for students. We keep overhead low and pass the savings on. The best way to save on a student move is to be fully packed before we arrive and to move mid-month when demand is lower.
How much does a typical student move cost?
Most student moves with two movers take one to three hours. The total cost depends on the hourly rate plus a vehicle fee. We provide a clear estimate before your move starts.
Can you move me on short notice?
Yes. We handle last-minute and same-day moves regularly. Call us and we will check availability. Mid-month, we can almost always fit in a same-day student move.
What if I live in a basement suite with narrow stairs?
No problem. Basement suites are one of the most common types of student housing in Vancouver. Our crew is experienced with narrow stairways, low ceilings, and tight corners. We bring the right equipment to handle these spaces safely.
Can you move my roommate and me at the same time?
Absolutely. If you and your roommates are all moving out on the same day, we can coordinate a combined move. You share the cost and everyone saves money.
Do you move students to other cities?
Yes. We handle moves to and from Vancouver Island, the Fraser Valley, the Okanagan, and other BC destinations. For long-distance student moves, we provide a flat-rate quote so you know the total cost before we start.
What if I only have a few items?
We handle small moves and even single-item deliveries. If you just need a bed, desk, and a few boxes moved, our small moves service is perfect for that.
Do you move on weekends?
Yes. Most student moves happen on weekends, and we schedule accordingly. Weekend availability follows the same pricing as weekdays.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
Yes. Every move with Simple Moves is covered by our comprehensive liability insurance and cargo coverage. Your belongings are protected regardless of the size of the move.
Can you help me get rid of items I do not want to move?
We can dispose of items you no longer need as part of the moving process. Let us know what needs to go and we will handle it.

How Students Save Money on Moving
Every dollar matters when you are a student. Here are proven strategies our student customers use to keep their moving costs as low as possible.
Combine moves with roommates. If two or three roommates are all moving out on the same day, booking one move for everyone is significantly cheaper than each person hiring movers separately. You share the truck and crew costs and everyone benefits.
Move mid-month. Avoid the last three days of the month if possible. Demand is lower mid-month, which means better availability and less time pressure. If you can negotiate a mid-month move-in with your new landlord, do it.
Sell or donate before moving. That bookshelf you bought at IKEA for $40 will cost money to move. If you do not love it, sell it on Facebook Marketplace or give it away on a buy-nothing group. Buy a new one at your destination if you need to. The same goes for cheap furniture, textbooks you are done with, and kitchen items you never use.
Pack everything yourself. Our biggest cost-saving tip for students is to have absolutely everything packed, sealed, and stacked by the door before our crew arrives. When we walk in and everything is ready to load, the move goes fast. When we walk in and you are still wrapping dishes, the clock runs while you pack.
Downsize your stuff. The less you own, the less it costs to move. Students who embrace minimalism save money on every move throughout their academic career. Keep what you need, let go of the rest.
International Student Moving
Vancouver’s universities attract students from around the world. International students face unique moving challenges that local students do not. We help international students with their specific needs.
Airport pickup and delivery. If you are arriving in Vancouver with luggage and shipped boxes, we can pick up your belongings and deliver them to your dorm or apartment. This saves you the hassle of fitting everything into taxis or transit.
Furnished to unfurnished transitions. Many international students start in furnished housing and later move to unfurnished apartments. We can help you acquire, transport, and set up furniture for your new place. We also move students out of unfurnished places back into furnished housing when their lease terms change.
End-of-program moves. When your degree is done and you are leaving Vancouver, we can help you move belongings to storage for future return, ship items to a cargo service for international shipping, or donate and dispose of items you are leaving behind.
Summer storage for international students. If you are going home for the summer but returning in September, storing your belongings with us is more cost-effective than paying rent on an empty apartment all summer. We pick up your stuff in April or May and deliver it to your new place in August or September.
