Our Packing Service Options
Every move is different, which is why we offer three levels of packing service. You choose the level of help that fits your budget and timeline, and we handle the rest.
Full-Service Packing
Our full-service packing option is the ultimate hands-off experience. Our crew arrives at your home with everything needed — boxes in every size, packing paper, bubble wrap, tape, wardrobe boxes, dish-pack kits, and specialty containers for mirrors, artwork, and electronics. We systematically work room by room, wrapping and boxing every item in your home while labelling each box with its contents and destination room.
Full-service packing typically takes a single day for most homes. For larger homes with four or more bedrooms, we may schedule packing across two days or send a larger crew to finish in one visit. By the time we’re done, every item in your home is securely packed, clearly labelled, and ready for loading onto the truck.
Full-service packing is ideal for:
- Families with young children who can’t spare days for packing
- Busy professionals with demanding work schedules
- Seniors downsizing who want a stress-free in 2026 transition
- Corporate relocations where the employer covers moving costs
- Anyone who simply wants the easiest possible moving experience
Partial Packing
Partial packing gives you the best of both worlds. You handle the straightforward items — clothing, books, linens, and personal items — while our professional packers take care of everything that’s fragile, awkward, or time-consuming to pack properly.
The most common partial packing request is kitchen and fragiles. The kitchen alone accounts for roughly 40% of the packing work in a typical home because of all the dishes, glassware, small appliances, and odd-shaped items. Add in artwork, mirrors, and electronics, and you’ve covered the items most likely to break during a move. Our packers use proven techniques and professional-grade materials to protect these items far better than newspaper and bath towels ever could.
Partial packing is popular with clients who want to save money by doing some of the work themselves while ensuring their most valuable and breakable items get professional protection.
Self-Packing with Materials Delivery
Prefer to pack everything yourself? We can deliver a packing materials kit to your door with the right number and sizes of boxes, plus all the tape, paper, and bubble wrap you’ll need based on the size of your home. This saves you multiple trips to the store and ensures you have proper moving boxes rather than flimsy recycled boxes from the grocery store that collapse under weight.
If you start packing on your own and realize you’re running out of time or energy, you can always call us to finish the job. We’re happy to step in at any point and pack whatever remains.
What’s Included in Our Packing Service
When you book packing with Simple Moves & Storage, everything is included in one transparent hourly rate. There are no surprise charges for materials or extra fees for specialty items. Here’s what’s covered:
- Moving boxes in all sizes — small boxes for heavy items like books, medium boxes for kitchen items and general household goods, large boxes for lightweight bulky items like bedding and pillows, and extra-large boxes for oversized soft goods
- Wardrobe boxes — tall boxes with a built-in hanging bar so your clothing goes straight from closet to box without folding or wrinkling
- Dish-pack and glass-pack kits — divided inserts that separate each plate, bowl, and glass to prevent chipping and cracking
- Packing paper — clean, ink-free newsprint for wrapping dishes, glassware, and decorative items without leaving marks
- Bubble wrap — used for extra cushioning around fragile items, electronics, and anything with protruding parts
- Packing tape and dispensers — professional-grade tape that seals securely and doesn’t peel off during transit
- Stretch wrap — used to bundle items together, protect upholstered furniture, and keep drawers and doors closed during the move
- Moving blankets and corner protectors — padded blankets and cardboard corner guards for furniture, appliances, and large items
- Specialty containers — mirror boxes, picture boxes, mattress bags, and TV boxes for items that need custom-sized protection
- Labelling — every box is clearly marked with contents and the room it belongs in at your new home
How We Pack Different Items
Our packers are trained to handle every type of household item using industry-standard techniques. Here’s a look at how we approach the most common categories.
Dishes, Glassware & Kitchenware
The kitchen is where most moving damage happens. Our packers individually wrap each plate, bowl, and glass in packing paper, then nest them into dish-pack boxes with cell dividers. Glasses are wrapped and placed upright (never stacked) with crumpled paper filling every gap. Heavy items like cast iron pans go in small boxes at the bottom, while lighter items sit on top. Small appliances are wrapped in bubble wrap with their cords secured.
Artwork, Pictures & Mirrors
Framed artwork and mirrors are some of the most damage-prone items in a move. We wrap each piece in packing paper first, then add a layer of bubble wrap, and finally place them in telescoping mirror or picture boxes sized to fit. Pieces are packed vertically (like a record in a crate, never flat) because glass is strongest against pressure applied to its edge. Foam corner protectors are added to valuable frames.
Electronics & TVs
Flat-screen TVs are wrapped in moving blankets and placed in TV-specific boxes with foam inserts. If the original box is available, we’ll use that instead since it was designed for the exact dimensions. All cables are labelled, coiled, and packed separately. Computers, monitors, gaming consoles, and other electronics are wrapped in anti-static bubble wrap to prevent damage from static discharge, then cushioned in boxes with ample padding on all sides.
Clothing & Linens
Hanging clothes transfer directly into wardrobe boxes — they arrive at your new home ready to hang in the closet without unpacking. Folded clothing, linens, and towels go into large boxes or suitcases. These soft items also double as excellent padding around fragile items when space allows.
Books & Heavy Items
Books are always packed in small boxes to keep the weight manageable. They’re placed spine-down or flat (never spine-up, which damages the binding) and packed tightly to prevent shifting. We apply the same small-box rule to records, tools, and other dense items — a large box full of books is nearly impossible to carry safely.
Furniture
All furniture is wrapped in moving blankets and secured with stretch wrap before it goes on the truck. Table legs are padded, glass tabletops are removed and packed separately in mirror boxes, and drawers are either taped shut or removed and wrapped individually. For high-value pieces like antique dressers or dining tables, we add corner protectors and extra blanket layers.
Specialty Packing for Fragile & High-Value Items
Some items need extra care beyond standard packing. Our specialty packing service covers items that are unusually fragile, valuable, or awkwardly shaped.
- Antiques and heirlooms — custom-wrapped with multiple layers of protection, packed in double-walled boxes, and flagged for priority handling during loading and unloading
- Chandeliers and light fixtures — disassembled where possible, with each component individually wrapped and packed in a custom box with dividers
- Large mirrors and glass tabletops — corner-protected, bubble-wrapped, and placed in adjustable mirror boxes with foam padding
- Musical instruments — packed in their original cases when available, or custom-padded in boxes with foam inserts for instruments like guitars, keyboards, and violins
- China cabinets and display pieces — glass shelves removed and packed separately, cabinet wrapped in blankets with extra padding on corners and edges
- Wine collections — packed in wine-specific cell boxes that keep bottles separated and cushioned, transported upright to prevent cork damage
If you have any items you’re concerned about, mention them when you request your quote and we’ll plan the right packing approach.
Unpacking Services
Our service doesn’t have to end when the last box comes off the truck. Simple Moves & Storage offers full unpacking at your new home so you can settle in immediately instead of living among boxes for weeks.
Our unpacking service includes:
- Unpacking all boxes and placing items in the appropriate rooms and on shelves, counters, or in cabinets as directed
- Reassembling furniture that was disassembled for the move
- Breaking down all empty boxes and bundling them for recycling
- Removing all packing materials — paper, bubble wrap, tape, and plastic — from your home
- Leaving your new home clean, organized, and box-free
Most clients book unpacking for the same day as delivery. We unpack while the movers bring in the remaining items, which means your home can be fully set up within hours of arrival. You can also book unpacking for a later date if you prefer to direct where things go at your own pace.
Packing Materials We Use
The quality of packing materials makes a real difference in how well your belongings survive the move. We use professional-grade supplies, not the thin boxes and dollar-store tape that fall apart under pressure.
- Double-walled corrugated boxes — stronger and more rigid than single-wall boxes, these resist crushing and stacking pressure far better
- 200-lb test boxes — rated to hold up to 200 pounds of pressure per square inch, meaning they won’t collapse when stacked in the truck
- Acid-free packing paper — won’t leave ink stains or chemical residue on dishes, fabrics, or other items
- 3-mil bubble wrap — thicker than standard bubble wrap for better cushioning and puncture resistance
- Eco-friendly options — we recycle or reuse boxes whenever possible, use paper-based tape alternatives on request, and take back boxes after your move for reuse on future jobs
We bring more materials than we expect to need so we never have to pause the job for a supply run. Any unused materials stay with you at no extra charge in case you need them for organizing or future projects.
How Long Does Packing Take?
Packing times depend on the size of your home, how much stuff you have, and how many packers are on the job. Here are typical timeframes with a two-person packing crew:
| Home Size | Estimated Packing Time | Approximate Box Count |
|---|---|---|
| Studio apartment | 2–3 hours | 15–25 boxes |
| 1-bedroom apartment | 3–4 hours | 25–40 boxes |
| 2-bedroom home | 4–6 hours | 40–60 boxes |
| 3-bedroom home | 5–8 hours | 60–90 boxes |
| 4-bedroom home | 7–10 hours | 80–120 boxes |
| 5+ bedroom home | 10–14 hours (or 2 days) | 120–180+ boxes |
These estimates assume a typical amount of household items. Homes with extensive collections, full garages, or packed storage rooms will take longer. We’ll give you a more accurate estimate after discussing the details of your home.

Packing Tips If You’re Doing It Yourself
Planning to pack on your own? Here are the tips our professional packers follow every day that will help you pack more efficiently and protect your belongings.
Start Early and Pack Room by Room
Begin packing at least two weeks before your move date. Start with rooms and items you use least — guest bedrooms, seasonal decorations, books, and storage areas. Leave daily essentials like toiletries, a few outfits, phone chargers, and basic kitchen items for the last day.
Use the Right Size Box
The biggest mistake DIY packers make is putting heavy items in large boxes. Heavy items like books, tools, canned food, and dishes should always go in small boxes. Large boxes are for lightweight bulky items like pillows, stuffed animals, and lampshades. A large box packed with books will weigh over 30 kilograms and is nearly impossible to carry without the bottom giving out.
Fill Every Gap
Items shift and break when there’s empty space inside a box. Fill gaps with crumpled packing paper, towels, t-shirts, or socks. The box should feel firm when closed — if the top bows inward, there’s not enough fill. If it bulges outward, the box is overpacked and won’t stack safely.
Wrap Every Fragile Item Individually
Never stack plates or glasses without wrapping each one separately in packing paper or bubble wrap. Even if two items look like they fit together perfectly, vibration during transit will cause them to chip and crack where they touch. Wrap each piece individually and place heavier items at the bottom of the box.
Label Everything
Write the contents and destination room on at least two sides of every box. When boxes are stacked in the truck or piled in your new home, you need to be able to read labels from multiple angles. Mark fragile boxes clearly on the top and all sides so movers know to handle them carefully and place them on top of stacks, never underneath heavy boxes.
Pack an Essentials Box
Pack one clearly labelled box (or suitcase) with everything you’ll need for the first night in your new home: toiletries, medications, phone chargers, a change of clothes, basic cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, snacks, and water. Keep this box with you rather than loading it on the truck so you can access it immediately.
Packing Service Pricing
Our packing services are charged at an hourly rate per packer, with all materials included in the price. There are no hidden fees for boxes, tape, bubble wrap, or specialty containers — everything is bundled into one straightforward rate.
Pricing depends on the scope of the job. For an accurate quote tailored to your specific home and belongings, call us at (604) 670-6050 or fill out our online quote form. We’ll ask about the size of your home, what needs to be packed, and your preferred timeline to build a quote with no surprises.
A few things that affect packing cost:
- Home size — larger homes have more items and require more packer-hours
- Volume of belongings — a minimalist 3-bedroom home may pack faster than a fully furnished 2-bedroom
- Specialty items — homes with extensive artwork, antiques, or wine collections require more time and specialty materials
- Full vs. partial packing — partial packing costs less since you’re handling some of the work yourself
- Packing combined with moving — booking packing and moving together is the most cost-effective option since we can coordinate crews and scheduling
Frequently Asked Questions About Packing Services
How far in advance should I book packing services?
We recommend booking at least one to two weeks before your move date, especially during peak moving season (May through September). For moves at the end of the month — which is when most leases turn over — booking three to four weeks ahead gives you the best availability. That said, we accommodate last-minute requests whenever our schedule allows, so don’t hesitate to call even if your move is days away.
Do I need to be home while you pack?
You don’t need to be present the entire time, but we do recommend being available at the start to walk through your home with our crew leader. This lets you point out anything fragile, valuable, or that requires special attention. You can also designate specific items or areas you’d prefer to pack yourself. After the walkthrough, many clients head to work or run errands and return when we’re finished.
Can you pack and move on the same day?
Yes, and many clients prefer this approach. For smaller homes (studios and one-bedrooms), we typically pack in the morning and move in the afternoon. For larger homes, we may send a packing crew ahead of the moving crew, or schedule packing the day before the move. We’ll recommend the most efficient approach based on the size of your home.
What items can’t you pack?
For safety and insurance reasons, we cannot pack or transport hazardous materials including propane tanks, gasoline, paint thinner, fireworks, ammunition, or other flammable and explosive items. We also cannot transport perishable food, plants (for long-distance moves), or personal documents like passports and financial records — we recommend keeping those with you. Everything else, from the heaviest furniture to the most delicate crystal, we can handle.
Are my belongings insured during packing?
Yes. All items packed by our crew are covered by our cargo insurance and liability policy. If anything is damaged during the packing process, we take full responsibility. This is one of the key advantages of professional packing over doing it yourself — if you pack a box and something breaks inside, it’s much harder to determine when the damage occurred.
Do you provide boxes if I want to pack myself?
Absolutely. We can deliver a packing materials kit to your door with the right quantity and sizes of boxes based on your home, along with tape, packing paper, bubble wrap, and markers. We’ll also give you guidance on how many of each size to use for different rooms. If you need more supplies partway through, just call and we’ll drop off additional materials.
How do you handle packing for storage?
Packing for storage requires a slightly different approach than packing for a direct move. Boxes need to be sealed more thoroughly to prevent dust and moisture entry, items that could be affected by temperature changes (like candles and vinyl records) need extra insulation, and everything must be labelled in detail since you may not open these boxes for months. We also stack and organize your storage unit strategically so frequently needed items remain accessible.
Can I unpack some boxes myself and have you do the rest?
Of course. Partial unpacking works the same way as partial packing — you choose which rooms or items you want us to handle, and you take care of the rest on your own schedule. Many clients have us unpack the kitchen and living room so those spaces are functional immediately, then gradually unpack bedrooms and storage areas over the following days.
What happens to the boxes and packing materials after the move?
If you book our unpacking service, we break down all boxes and remove all packing materials from your home when we’re done. If you’re unpacking yourself, we encourage you to flatten your boxes and set them out for recycling, or call us and we’ll arrange a pickup. We reuse boxes that are still in good condition on future moves, which reduces waste and keeps materials out of landfills.
